Apigenin

The original study linking apigenin to calming receptor activity

The foundational laboratory study that first identified apigenin, isolated from Matricaria recutita (chamomile), as a ligand for central benzodiazepine receptors. Apigenin competitively displaced flunitrazepam from GABA-A receptors and produced mild anxiolytic and sedative effects, without the muscle-relaxant or anticonvulsant effects typical of benzodiazepine drugs.
